Day 212 – 365 Days of Photography

7-31-2014

On my way to Arima to see if ‘Data-Safe’ can recover any of the pictures off of my SD card, the sky ahead was blue, but when I looked in the rear view mirror the sky behind was gray and dismal.  I took several pictures of the sky.

Day 205 – 365 Days of Photography

7-24-2014

It’s been several days since I’ve posted, today being 8/2/2014. I’ve been bombed about an SD card that failed that had some pretty important photos on it.  I haven’t been able to restore the images and needless to say, it’s very unnerving and taxing.
I will be posting mainly filler shots through today and continue shooting from then on.  After all, life goes on and I must perk up.

I decided to toy with the processing of some of the images that I took at the park.

This taken of my daughter, as she stood nonchalantly whilst I adjusted my tripod and setup.

Day 204 -365 Days of Photography

7-23-2014

Fun Day at the park, killing time waiting for my son’s lessons to be over. …I made me a collage of pictures at the park and posted to facebook via PicCollage an iphone/ipad app.  Thought I would share it with you!

Day 203 – 365 Days of Photography

7-22-2014

How did I end up 4 days behind in posting again?  Golly, seems like the daily grind is taking all of my time.  Well I took the kids to eat pizza and although my camera was in the car.  The best camera at hand was my Iphone at the restaurant.  Here goes.

Well I wrote this with the intention of posting and didn’t and now I am further behind. L Well I’ve been shooting, however, I stepped into an unfortunate occurrence.  My SD card failed on writing and converted to RAW so I have some images that needs recovering.   Working on it and by end of week I should be able to post.  IN the meanwhile let me at least catch up the four days I was referring to in this original prior paragraph.

Day 202 – 365 Days of Photography

7-21-2014

Today I toyed with some photo manipulations because I am really an artist at heart.  I manipulated several photos to my liking.  I chose to showcase this one as today’s 365.  My son, shot here at yet another canon monkeying around, edited into a painters touch somewhat (No chickens behind him this time).

Every day from me a thousand words you incite,
only yours eyes can see the places to which i invite,
into my life, I have given you the gift of sight,
as my flash becomes the constant light
with me, you journey along my life's road,
your heart I touch when my messages are told
i hope you enjoy as my story i unfold
Of new and also enticing places of old.

What a tool this small shutter
All these words are more than uttered
Before I press my heart it flutters
As I stifle delightful mutters
So to you I send this gift today
I hope it warms your heart in the same way
As it does to mine as it plays
With every one of the thousand words it says

For in the beginning there is a canvas
To me it has imparted its trust
White and oh so pristine
But how long shall it remain clean
It my job to color it in every way
And every day I get closer day by day by day

Here are some additional photo manipulations done today!

Day 201 – 365 Days of Photography

7-20-2014

My son is posing at one of the canons at the fort in Tobago.  Little does he know that there are chickens coming to partake in the adventure behind him.  Had he known, he would be high tailing it out of there.  Chicken!  My daughter also had a partiality to the chickens.  When we drove up there were a bunch of them in the parking lot and some went under the car to rest, she was afraid that we would crush them as we drove off.  I told her that they were smart enough to move away and they were not in line with the wheels anyway.  She wasn’t having it.  Oh well, I drove off and no chickens were crushed.

Day 200 – 365 Days of Photography

7-19-2014

Today we had a football match. It ended 2-2. We were really hoping for a win. We are currently at second place in the league. Here is one of my favorite shots of the day. That’s one of our players with her face all contorted in yellow :)

Some other shots of the day!

Day 199 – 365 Days of Photography

7-18-2014

"The home of my deceased paternal grandma brings back so many childhood memories. Times spent with my cousins and aunts and uncles as well as time spent with grandparents when they were alive. Also bittersweet because many of my trips there were with my dad.
But one of the best, is the abundance of fruit, and my aunt and uncle kept it up. Seems like my timing is perfect. Everything seems to be in season. Mango, sapodilla, plum, noni, banana, plantain, sour cherry, breadfruit. I love it. Plus my children get to climb and pick and eat to their hearts delight. Ah Tobago Tobago!!!"

Day 198 – 365 Days of Photography

7-17-2014

This morning I got up, showered and went downstairs and the mangoes in the fruit basket were calling my name.  After devouring three and drinking a glass of water, I thought, my gosh, I have no room for breakfast now.   I went out to a business meeting and promptly upon return made a banana, peanut, protein smoothie, and thought that would suffice.  My mother asked me for a ride so that she could go into the city to conduct business.  I call out to my children to go with me for the ride to drop her off, well alas, as fate would have it, my son asked for pies from the pie stop.  I couldn’t resist.  An aloo pie with chow mein would be my demise.  Greedily I bought two, and as you can see couldn’t even complete one.  It’s all in the fridge now, it’ll have to be my lunch.  Sadly though, as I have a tuna casserole that I lovingly made and wanted to partake of.  Ah, there goes my days meals, treadmill here I come.

Day 197 – 365 Days of Photography

7-16-2014

Fort King George is located at the top of Calder Hall Road in Scarborough the capital of Tobago.  The fort was created in the 1700s and it is known as Tobago’s best preserved historical site.  On the site you can find the old prison, bell tank, barracks, armory, officers’ mess, cannons and they’re all on well manicured grounds overlooking several magnificent coastal locations with a grand view of the Atlantic Ocean.  The museum which was once the Guard house, provides you the choice of a tour guide, and it has on display several Amerindian and other local artifacts, as well as weapons, old maps and photographs that were unearthed in the area.

The Fort was built by the British forces and through the years fell in the hands of the French forces.  The Fort remained in operation until 1854.  Whilst the French had the Fort they renamed it to Fort Castries, however the original name was re-established.  The Fort was named in honor of King George III who reigned over Great Britain and Ireland from 1760 to 1820.

Fort King George rests at an altitude of 425 feet above sea level.

There are several Forts around the island of Tobago, a reminder of the 32 times the island changed hands whilst Europe battled over its resources and strategic location.  Other Forts of note are Fort Bennett, Fort Granby, Fort James, and Fort Milford, each with some mere form of existence, for tourists to bask in.

Some Forts of old that the elders remember but are no longer there to be seen are:
Fort Monick
Fort Irvine
Fort Schmoll
Fort Cashmir
French Fort
Fort Campbleton

At Fort King George, there is a map of the island made out of a beautiful hedge, and the forts are named and their locations shown.

This shot was taken at Fort King George from the walkway leading from the powder magazine to the fine arts center and it overlooks Scarborough beyond.

Day 196 – 365 Days of Photography

As we say in Trinidad and Tobago "it's raining bucket ah drop".  It’s another overcast day, another old building showcasing the history of the fort.  This is Tobago.

Tripod, Camera bag, Umbrella (truth be told, it was just to shelter the camera bag), my handy assistants lugging my load up and around the hill as I perused and took shots, I tried to sneak one in, but they were watching me like hawks.

Day 193 - 365 Days of Photography

7-12-2014

Even though it rained every day that I was in Tobago, I still managed to get some picturesque shots.  If you do not mind, I would like to show you some of those taken up at the fort, starting today.

Day 192 – 365 Days of Photography

7-11-2014

Nostalgic for me.  My grandmother lives on the same street as this lookout point, and it's just a walk up from the house.  I frequented here many times as a child, just to sit on the rambling grass and play catch sometimes, with my cousins.  It was nice bringing my kids to see this and sharing tales of those fun times of my childhood.

Day 191 – 365 Days of Photography

7-10-2014

I decided that my children deserved to wet more than their feet.  So we faced the drum of the weather and spent the day at this beach.  We were in the water and did not come out until our fingers were pruned up.  Then we visited the shops and bought little trinkets.  We also basked in the food available, having a signature curried crab and dumpling lunch.

Store Bay!

Day 190 – 365 Days of Photography

7-9-2014

When my aunt saw me with my camera, she wanted me to go to this particular beach, because of how picturesque it was.  Indeed she was right, we ran from the rain, immediately after taking this shot.

Back Bay, Tobago.
