Today, (January 1st 2013) I have decided to start blogging. Not
because I have tons of things to say, (well, maybe I do J) but because I have been told
that what I say when I say it, is valuable (I think that to be true of most of
us). A picture, I’ve been told, is worth
a thousand words, so when my typing muses run out, my photographic arm will
lend to my story.
My name is Odette Lawrence-Robertson, and I am married to Kert Robertson with whom I have two children Sherrayne and Kristian. My God, my husband and my children come first, in that order.
I have a strong Christ conviction, as I am a Christian woman of faith and I exercise Godly principles in my thoughts and actions. However, I am in no way perfect and stumble every now and again.
I grew up on the island of Trinidad of the twin islands, Trinidad and Tobago. As a child I loved storytelling and writing. I believe everyone has their own philosophy and that it can be very interesting when expressed. Have you ever sat and talked with an elder from your native town/city/village? Their clichés their mischievous expressions, their tales, their wisdom, tickles the imagination and always, ‘always’ leaves an imprint on your mind.
I migrated to the United States and spent 18 years there before returning to the land of my birth and upbringing. My dream is to open a bed and breakfast (in Tobago or even Trinidad) that welcomes and caters to mainly my many friends that I have acquired over the years of migrant living and the friends of those friends. I am a lover of people, and in my own quirky way I observe and listen to all of us.
I have named my page/blog/photography work after my loved ones that have gone on to be with the Lord. My father Norris Lawrence provided the ‘Nor’ and my dearly beloved brother Dean Lawrence provided the ‘Dean’ and thus ‘NorDean Canvas’ was born.
I also love music, it’s the key to my soul. I dabbled a bit in piano playing, writing the first 5 grades of music and doing the first 3 grades in practical exams. I also was part of a rap group and a break dancing group back in the 80’s. On top of all of this ‘coolness’ I am a closet geek J, a real techy gyal, with a unique ‘reasoning and logic’ brain that figures out most system quirks. I will build a personal computer in a day, hook up a sound system for a DJ, wire a car audio system or any system for that matter.
I love travel, it doesn't matter where to, it can be on my own island or other parts of the world, I also love snapping food and stills. I will try my darndest to capture it all and share with you.
Well enough rambling for now, I will let the stories told unfold so that you can see what I see from MY perspective.
