Day 243 – 365 Days of Photography

8-31-2014

Happy Independence Trinidad and Tobago!  Our Flag flies high!  Not the best image of the flag since the white seems to have been overpowered by the bleeding of the black, or on contra it just might be the best image after all as there is some tension politically currently and this just may represent how the people of the nation feel.

National colors are red, black and white.

Day 242 – 365 Days of Photography

8-30-2014

I am really having fun reviewing some older images and processing them.  Here is one taken in Port of Spain along the waterfront.  My husband was looking for several of his diplomas and we were instructed to go to a building here where they now house the science and tertiary education certificates.  I waited patiently and took a few shots along the waterfront.

Day 241 – 365 Days of Photography

8-29-2014

I love skies, but I also love oceans, rivers, lakes or any body of water.  Water has the same level of connectivity; it is the one mass that touches every country.  We are all connected by the same body of sea even though in my region it’s name may differ, if I had a sail boat I could set out and get to where you are.  It’s infinite and sure.  That is why I firmly believe that pollution of rivers and seas should be controlled by a world police.  It should not be allowed in any country as the pollution thereof not only affects the country in question but the whole world rather.

Day 240 – 365 Days of Photography

8-28-2014

I have edited more of my pictures from last year and I bring to you more of my new editing series.   Primarily because I have not been out shooting as I’ve started a new gig and it is consuming most of my time.   I can foresee that the next week I may not get a chance to post at all until possibly the weekend.  So I forewarn you now.   Today it was fitting to enter this new chapter of my life as I celebrate the memory of my dad.  It was also fitting that this was  the image that I edited.  No bright sky here.   It’s been 3 years since he left us and the memory is still fresh and raw.

Day 239 – 365 Days of Photography

8-27-2014

Reviewing Old Images are fun.  I am looking at images from my trip to England and back then I was relatively new to my DSLR and furthermore, on this trip I started shooting RAW.  In addition I didn’t know much other than the fact that I liked taking pictures.  Well I am still learning and now I am trying to get accustomed to editing.  I am really a newbie here.   Well this particular image was boring to me. So I took the sky from one of my Caribbean beach shots and imposed on this Euro scene.  I think it adds way more drama to it.   Also did some uplifting of this image.  What thinks you?

Day 238 – 365 Days of Photography

8-26-2014

So we had to go out today to drop my mother off to take care of some business.  My daughter elected to rock the cap she bought yesterday.  Well Iphone in hand I captured this image and put my own twist to it.

Day 237 – 365 Days of Photography

8-25-2014

Today was a busy day, lots of schlepping around for the kids.  I spent hours upon returning trying out some new things via processing.  I am no professional at this, but I do have an idea of what I want to see.  Here is an old image that I took last year in England that I worked on some processing on.  I did no cropping as I kind of like the edge of the brick buildings and the effect of the stone.  I’ll show two edits that I ended up happy with.

Day 236 – 365 Days of Photography

8-24-2014

Back to the garden.  Here we are and the ‘melongene’ or eggplant is ready for the picking, but at the same time the trees are still blooming and the flowers are out.  These are tiny flowers that I brought in a little, via the close up feature (not macro lenses).

Day 235 – 365 Days of Photography

8-23-2014

I had the pleasure of watering plants in my brother’s garden while he and his family took a little vacation.  They’re back now.  Peeping at his assortments of plants was thrilling.  I am looking forward to the next harvesting of the passion fruit.  You can tell they’re sweet, and so can the bees.

Day 234 – 365 Days of Photography

8-22-2014

Processing Fun.  Take an image and use your imagination without composites.  This is where I am at.  Grungy old scenic skies.

I spent all day in the sun today and now I am burnt to a crispy brown and truly knackered.

Day 233 – 365 Days of Photography

8-21-2014

A portrait view of a beach landscape, why, because I am fascinated with the sky.  I was just sitting in my beach chair looking up at the coconut trees swaying in the breeze and wanted to capture it but also a bit of ocean.  However, I do not own one of those coveted wide angle lenses.  So make do with what you have right?  Here it is, my make shift view. LOL!

Day 232 – 365 Days of Photography

8-20-2014

This is a popular lookout point on the Northern coast of the island of Trinidad overlooking the Maracas Bay and several of the other bays heading up the winding road.  This is Trinidad.  Of course the sky is featured.

Day 230 – 365 Days of Photography

8-18-2014

The next few days of posts are going to lend to my current fascination with the sky.  I will aim to bring you skies at different times of day, sunny and bright, stormy, rainy, gray, rising sun, setting sun etc.  Travel with me as I go around Trinidad capturing some of our beautiful cloud coverage and deep blues.

Day 229 – 365 Days of Photography

8-17-2014

I do not know if they are edible, so it’s going nowhere near my mouth.     The kids in Cedros used these to play cricket on the beach using this as their ball back in the day and they locally named it “gru gru nut”.  My mother says that it comes washing down with the river.  So it’s not grown on the beach like the popular cocoplum/hicaco/fat pork.  I didn’t feel the consistency but she says it is dry and hard.  After a shower of rain came down they looked deep purple and not as outwardly white as in the photograph.

They were stacked by my mother and kids on a ledge as she was explaining to them how she played with it as a child.

Day 228 – 365 Days of Photography

8-16-2014

YUK!  A sea cockroach or ‘Kachicom’ (sounds like cacicong_local name spelling unknown) was lurking around.  Me afraid of all things cockroach related, high tailed it out of there and then, came back only so close as to get a photo.  Key work ‘A’ meaning one, just one shot, all I needed was just one shot.  There you have it, for those so inclined, even looking at it via the screen is giving me the heebie jeebies.
Yikes!

Day 227 – 365 Days of Photography

8-15-2014

Trinidad, a country of diverse ethnicities, cultures, religion, a people, is evident by our landscape, architecture and demographic sceneries.  This is called Temple by the Sea.  This temple holds many funeral services for our Hindu community, but it also does weddings, puja ceremonies (gifting to the Gods) and other religious ceremonies.

My husband and I went to drop our Tahoe off by our mechanic who lives close to this vicinity.  After leaving the vehicle with the mechanic, we drove down to this location and I took a few shots quickly before a pending funeral.  These days I am truly in love with the sky.  I’ve been setting my camera to really capture the cloud cover and pull the depth of it out in the scene.  Enjoy!

Here are a few additional shots!

Port of Spain in the distance

The caretaker asked me to photograph this Murti as the top is 67 years old and the base 19 years old.

Day 226 – 365 Days of Photography

8-14-2014

Throw back Thursday!  Back to the zoo we go (not literally but just because it’s a throw back photo) for yet another sad zoo animal.  This particular animal flashed me with his nether regions when I was taking his picture.  Unfortunately he did it so fast, that I captured it on camera.  That feat tickled my son pink.  In pure good taste I will show you his face.

This is a howler monkey and they are famous for their loud howls, which travel three miles through dense forest.  Noisy little buggers.  Our forests are full of them and they can be spotted in many of our rain forests.  They are indigenous to Central and South America.

Oh and happy birthday to my Mother-in-law.  God bless her always!

Wednesday 13 August 2014

Day 225 – 365 Days of Photography

8-13-2014

Today our best friends said farewell to their dad.  I was given the somber humbling task of photographing the home going of a stellar dad, husband, uncle, sibling, grand parent, cousin, friend to many.  I’ve attended many an event of this nature, however, this one was different.  The atmosphere was lighter and the family was at peace with the transition.  Grief has many faces and they have weathered theirs well.  Today I accomplished this task having lost my own father and brother, understanding that comfort lays only within your own grasp and the time you allow yourself to mentally grieve.  Life is not without death, death hurts only those left to remember, to lament on what could’ve been.  The everyday tasks where you once called or leaned on the person, bring fresh memories of their existence.  Knowing that you can call no more, hurts, bruises, but understanding that no more pain or suffering is had by your loved one, comforts.  Peace can only be attained in the sweet delivery of a new sense of calm that slowly comes over you as time progresses.  Tough as it may be we come to this realization and soon, the memories of happy times can live within our souls without the sudden shedding of tears at the mere mention of their name.   They say that time heals it all, it is not time, but your own processing, your own mourning, your own walk down that road of grief that heals your pain.   I pray my friends and their family find that peace and understanding knowing that their dad is in a better place.

As we stand below and look up into the hills, the clouds, the vast sky, we can only imagine heaven’s door, beckoning and our loved ones, dancing on pearly streets, frolicking with angels and casting their ever protecting arms over us.  A realm we know nothing of but our imagination has its full play.   For we are a creative body of people and our mind brings us solace in times of most need.  Rest in perpetual peace dearly departed soul.  Rest in Peace.

Day 224 – 365 Days of Photography

8-12-2014

Ants. ants in your pants.  Mom there are ants in this stomp.  MOM there are ANTS in this STOMP.  MOMMY!!!  That was the excitement shown by my son, after seeing ants running in this plant.  He beckoned me over and the result, this picture.

Day 223 – 365 Days of Photography

8-11-2014

To give you a taste of my day, here is an image of my beautiful niece and handsome nephew playing between the fishing rods and my nephew is letting my niece know something, which is suggested by his finger gesticulation and facial expression.

Sunday 10 August 2014

Day 222 – 365 Days of Photography

8-10-2014

Moruga, and the last spring bridge in the country.  The bridge crosses a river and is nested by a fish depot, where the fishermen come up the river with their spoils from their days catch.  The locals had to champion the cause for the bridge to not be replaced, therefore a new bridge is being constructed next to it.  This area was once inhabited by the Amerindians and the now current roads were trails used by the Amerindians of old.  The other side of the bridge takes you to a beautiful beach, with an expansive sand when the tide is low as it was on this day, a sand on which my daughter drew an anime character that she made up that I showcased on my facebook page.  My brother and husband took the boys fishing, and we just sat enjoying the biting insects (not), tranquil sea breeze and God’s beautiful scenery.

My daughter's self created anime character drawn in the sand on the beach in Moruga!

A view of the beach and the fishing rods, lined, baited and waiting to be used.

Day 221 – 365 Days of Photography

8-9-2014

A visit to the local zoo, yielded a look at this white lion.   It has such a dog like look to me.  The fur looked soft and zoo animals is not really my preference as I find that the animals look sad.  They should be free to roam in their natural habitats.

Day 220 – 365 Days of Photography

8-8-2014

A papaya field that I saw whilst taking a drive.  The native name for papaya is 'paw paw'.  I thought it to be quite a lovely scene.  So natural and serene.  One day when I get a wide angle lens, I would be able to do these scenes more justice.

In this my native land we refer to Avocado as Zaboca, and here is a tree on my Aunt's land.  We came home with a few spoils from the garden.

Day 218 – 365 Days of Photography

8-6-2014

The rain has been coming down everyday as we say "bucket ah drop".  Here is an example of my windscreen stuck in traffic between wipes of the wiper blade.  I thought black and white would show the true gloom of it.

Measuring water lines and clearances on our property.  Pure greenery surrounds us on this land.

All the rain we've been getting aids in keeping the environment lush and green, however, it makes grass cutting near impossible.  Rapid regrowth of grass is hard to keep up with.
